poison study

i was absolutely riveted by this novel by maria snyder. yelena is facing execution for murder as the story begins but is offered the chance to live as a food taster for the commander of ixia. the catch is that if anyone actually trys to poison the commander, its yelena that will die. an auora of danger hovers over this book as yelena tries to navigate her training, evade the father and guards of the man she killed, the politics and intrigue of being near those in power, and magicians from the country sitia that want her dead.

i was amazed at yelena's will to live though fear, mistrust of everyone, and horrible memories seem to plauge her every step. this book has a little bit of everything i love about fantasy. magic, mystery, and a good love story. i just had my sister buy Maria Snyder's next two books in the series for me and i can't wait to get my hands on them.
