Dragon Slippers (2009 YA Challenge #8 of 12)

I have been reading lots of books by Jessica Day George lately. And this was a fun one. Creel's parents are dead. Her aunt likes her well enough but thinks Creel's best hope of a bright future is to give her to a dragon and let a knight rescue her. A well-laid plan perhaps but Creel's a tough girl and isn't waiting around for a guy. She befriends the dragon and from him she receives a pair of blue shoes. Innocent enough it seems but it isn't long before Creel realizes that they really aren't just lovely slippers. Throw in some more dragons, an attractive and good-natured prince, some court intrigue and some friendly seamstresses and this book hands out some good fun. I have already ordered the sequel.
